Every child has a right to quality care. How they grow and develop has a lot to do with the type of care they receive as a child. When you choose a licensed, quality child care centre, you are giving your child the great start they need to develop a strong and healthy mind, body and spirit as they prepare for the next stages of their lives.
Checklist for Choosing a Quality Child Care Centre
- Is the centre licensed (regulated and inspected by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development 4-6 times yearly)?
- Is the environment clean and safe?
- What type of curriculum is followed?
- Does the centre have an open door policy?
- Is the atmosphere welcoming and child friendly?
- Do the children seem confident, happy and enthusiastic?
- Is there an appropriate educator to child ratio?
- Does the staff have Early Childhood Education training?
- Do they offer a mixture of physical and outdoor play for a minimum of 2 hours per day?
- Does the centre have an outdoor play area?
- Do activities offer a mix of free play and quiet time?
- Is there positive interation between the educator and the child that is warm, caring and respectful?
- Do all educators have First Aid/CPR training and a criminal check?
